New Apples

Did you know that Sara Lee uses only Jonathon apples for their pies.
One (2 pound) bag of Jonathons will make one small 9" pie.
NEW THIS  WEEK ON THE APPLES.
Gold Rush, Enterprise and Galarini.

50% OFF BEAN SALE

All beans are 50% off to clear out last years stock.
Most farmers in the Thumb area have harvested their beans and they are being cleaned and dried.
Older beans just take a little longer to cook.
I find that a stainless pressure cooker 3 minutes on high and left for warm for an hour makes older beans tender.
Beans in most stores are easily up to two years old.  Farmers in Michigan harvest beans late summer and fall.

Farming not always what we hope for.
The domesticated turkeys
that we love for thanksgiving is not always the easiest birds to raise.
GCC has been raising turkeys for a few years now, they were doing great until a couple of weeks ago we had a large temperature drop with in a short period of time.
They ended up loosing over 400 of their birds.
Not sure why, we experienced something similar with our chickens in the spring that were outside in their chicken tractors, a 20-30 degree temperature drop within a two hour period and we lost most of them, we learned later the same thing happened to CVK farms.
They will be able to supply most of the per-ordered fresh turkeys, but we had to take them off the site as ore-orders.
Last year Joyful Journey had turkeys available as well.  Christy from Joyful Journey farm found out how difficult farming was and realized they were losing money so she is taking a different direction.  She hopes to get a degree in Naturopathic medicine and to grow plants and herbs for natural remedies.
